  • El Granada Building.

Historical building constructed in 1906 was on the list of seismically vulnerable Soft Story buildings and was seismically retrofitted using side plate steel moment frames. In order to reduce the size of the steel columns and minimize the foundation excavation, steel beams were added both at second floor level and in the crawl space of the first floor. The side plate shop weld, field bolted design with link beams allowed to eliminate expensive field welding, speeding up the erection and significantly reducing construction costs
